I am Dr. Debra Ann Nixon. I am a family therapy professor, international lecturer, diversity and multicultural coach, author, and family counselor. Welcome; and thanks for visiting my site. You will see as you journey through the next few pages that I wear many hats. But, let me assure you that the different hats that I wear come together in one word: relationships.

Relationships are the foundation and cornerstone how we become who we are and how we move in the world. So, regardless of your gender, age, ethnicity, education, occupation, or class you are always making choices based on the people and things that you are connected to or that you allow to influence your life. The way I see it is that we are always interacting—relating–with someone or something either consciously or unconsciously.

By the way, I am also a minister and a hypnotherapist. And no, the two pratices are not in conflict. However, as a Believer, I am respectful of others’ beliefs—a trait that’s sometimes hard to find in traditional believers. In my practice and in my life, I honor difference no matter what sort it is. To me that’s more like Christ than how large my bible is or how my scripture I can quote, or how much I preach about the sins of the world. My personal convictions and experiences have taught me that God, the Almighty or Divine is not invested or interested in devices that do not serve the greater human good, especially the ones that divide us. For this reason, I have come to embrace a faith-practice that is (to me) more like the Spirit of what the Bible teaches and less like the traditions of established religion. So I call myself a “Christ’ ian” (pronounced “Cry-st-yawn,) I coined this name for the following reasons: 1) to identify with the greatest teacher-healer of all time; and 2) to distinguish myself from the group of men who established a religion in His name. How about that for diversity? For more talk on my spiritual ideas visit my Liberation Outreach International page: “Breathing Words.” I have plenty more to say. If you would like to contact me, you may do so using the information below. Welcome All. Email: drdebranixon@att.net

Do Something Different

I teach at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL, one of the most diverse communities in the US. I’ve designed a program “Do Something Different” to increase to sense of community on our campus. My idea is that if the world is going to change, then we’re (all of us) will have to do something to make it better. This movement is our way of promoting community inclusion.
