To the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama for rising to the challenge of talking about race relations despite the political climate
When President Obama invited Officer James Crowley and Professor Henry Gates to a White House chat about Dr. Gates’ arrest for breaking into his own home, many Americans thought that it was a waste of their time. They thought that the president had more important issues to tackle than to have an open conversation about what seemed like a harmless misunderstanding. How unfortunate for this type of mindset, as I cannot think of anything more important than the President making time to talk about what I believe is the most serious crisis in our country’s history, “racism.” In this small book I will discuss why it was important for the President call this meeting, and, hopefully, inspire you to begin to have similar conversations.
